Exhibition - Thi Kong a-Kia: The Weight of a Letter
It was an honour to be invited by my friend Janice to the opening of Thi Kong a-Kia: The Weight of a Letter last Friday.
The exhibition will be held until tomorrow 11 May 2026 at AweGallery, Petaling Jaya.
Janice's father started collecting antiques when he received some precious items from his father.
Until now, he has a shoplot building storing all his collections throughout the years.
He's 86 but still collecting and caring for all his collections. Janice thought why just keeping them all? So she planned this exhibition so that many more people has the chance to enjoy them.

Such a nice handwriting! I almost thought it's typed out.
A letter with stamps.
The opening hosted by Dora, the owner of AweGallery, together with the main person for the exhibition (the collector) Mr Lim Chow Nee, who is also Janice's father.
Before the stamp was invented, the post system was without stamp and the receiver would have to pay for the letter. If they didn't want to pay the letter will be forever not reaching them.
Thus the birth of the first postage stamp in the world, The Penny Black on 1 May 1840.
That is why Janice and the team chose 1st of May 2026 to open the exhibition.
Cute collection of old coins, one of my favourites of the exhibition.
I enjoyed the exhibition for all the handwritten letters, they are just captivating.
