Walden by Henry David Thoreau
I bought this book in November 2023 and I normally only read a lot when commuting on a public transport (as I don't have to drive). Finally I finished reading it last month, thanks to the many train rides travelling to join a friend's art installation work at National Art Gallery.
This 180 years old literature is not an easy read for me but I enjoyed his humour and his perspective of life. I found many things he mentioned in this book still quite relevant today, especially about economy and human behaviour.
This book is about his 2-year experiences staying in a small house in the woods next to Walden Pond. It's more like a journal recording his encounters with everything in the nature, people, his farm and he even included the breakdown of his expenses during the stay. He enjoyed the solitude but still received visiting guests with warmth.
"If a man is alive, there is always danger that he may die, though the danger must be allowed to be less in proportion as he is dead-and-alive to begin with. A man sits as many risks as he runs."
