Oh, happy V day to everyone!

Here are purple roses given by my lovely housemate.

I was jokingly requested her to bring home a rose when she wished me through Whatsapp.

She got another housemate a pink one. :)

Isn't that lovely?

That light purple crysanthemum is bought for decor.

Initially I wanted to get a rose since it's V day, but it surprised me (or I shouldn't be surprise) when the florist told me it's RM10 per stalk.

It's Valentine's, afterall.

So I got this one for RM2.50 instead. haha~

自上一次的活动后，这次于年十四，茨厂街社区艺术计划办了‘灯佑苏丹街’，让大家有机会聚在这条街为它祈福，也有机会再看看它多两眼。

因为农历新年的前一周，苏丹街业主接获土地局发出的最后通知，公函中阐明，如果业主没有在1月30日（年初九）前签署共同协议书，当局将援引征地法令，强行征地建捷运，苏丹街随时消失在历史版图上。

当天出席的人真的很多，比上次还多。

是来捍卫文化的？是来凑热闹的？是来拍照的？还是路过的？

我不知道我们这群出席者可否带来什么改变，但至少大家努力的表达了意愿，就是让苏丹街得以完整保留。

People gathered at Jalan Sultan to support the people's choice of re-alignment of the proposed MRT line and also to object Land Acquisition.

This is the subsequent of the news where the residents on the street have to vacate their properties during the six months or so of tunneling works for the KVMRT project, while the government will also be required to strengthen the heritage buildings should they be affected by the works underground.

They will be compensated, however there was no guarantee that the acquired Jalan Sultan properties would eventually be returned to the owners although the authorities were working on a solution to allow traders to return to their Chinatown lots being acquired for the KVMRT.

The authority placed a board for people to voice out the thoughts for the MRT project. But will they take it seriously?

这两小段太重要了，非分享不可。
好书一本，推荐。

看了这本借来的书后感触良多，因为发现身边的一些朋友很爱吃快餐，有的也常常带孩子去快餐店用餐。有时候我想多口劝说少吃点，但觉得自己好像鸡婆了。
因为这本书是朋友从台湾买回来的，我想在本地书局找一找再买下来，借或送给朋友。

也很感恩我的父母并没有常让我们吃快餐，所以我们也没养成习惯。

父母是孩子们的榜样，饮食习惯也是从家里培养出来的。

就买花回来摆吧! 也可以至少每两周换一次不同的花.

这次买的大黄菊只有一支, 就足够让家里充满阳光了.

上次买的, 可以耐差不多两个星期.

A great 2011 & for another great year 2012

Time flies. Another year comes by.

I'm glad that I had a fulfilling year 2011.

I'd visited Tokyo, my dream destination since teenage year;

I attended guitar class and yoga course, which are on my last year's resolution list;

I quit my job to work as a freelancer, more flexible and carefree;

and I bought a car, mini MPV as I told myself to get one before reaching 30. ;P

What a happening year.

So I started my first day of year 2012 sleeping soon after the fireworks ended by 12.30am and woke up at about 8.30am. Good start I suppose. It's one of my new year resolutions to have a good sleeping hour, hopefully everyday.

Learning new things has been on my list every year. So this year I would like to refresh Japanese language as I only remember very basic stuffs I learnt in university.

And I'm still contemplating to take a 2-day Barista course or work in a cafe to learn more about coffee.

Still weighting the pros and cons.

I also want to do more handcrafting, especially sewing that can help me to generate some income.
I want to read at least a chapter of a book or an article before going to bed every night. I hadn't read enough recently.

Oh yes, travelling is still an essential thing for me.

I will have a family trip to Seoul in July, and hopefully I can tag a friend for a Nepal trekking trip in November. But if not, I think I'll still make it by myself to join the troop.

So you have your new year resolutions ready?

I'm still at the same space, just that I added a box on my table.

For display and storage.

My table is kinda long and lean, so not enough space for me to put things.

(I know I keep A LOT of things) XD

So I picked up an unwanted cabinet being dismantled from a client's house, and cover it up with leftover wallpaper, and now it's mine.

Still kinda messy as I haven't tidy up everything.

My drawer and side book cabinet also still in a mess.

Let's make it for a new year, a 'new' space!

Art For Grabs + Human Rights Day

I joined my sis to attend Art For Grabs at The Annexe Gallery @Central Market last Saturday.

Poskod Talks was presented by Poskod.my in conjunction with Human Rights Day, about how communities create a better KL.

Speakers from left: Yeoh Lian Heng, the founder and director of Lost Generation arts space;

Nova Nelson, a producer of HEAR & NOW;

and Fahmi Reza, a social activist who is an active participant in Occupy Dataran.

We were 'babysitting' a little girl, whose parents were involved in the talk. She wanted to shop outside (that's Art For Grabs), so I accompanied her.

We stopped at this cute stall for a few times.

Finally she bought something for her mom, so she asked a pen from me to write a note to present with the gift. How sweet~

Recognize the ring? You can bring it home with just paying RM77 instead of 77mil. Lol.

How cool is that. And the 'ring' looks good~

If you've been to The Annexe, for sure you will pass by this interactive floor image at door from Central Market to The Annexe Gallery.

In the festive (ahem, holiday) mood

Year end. Holiday. Christmas and new year!

Although I'm not really celebrating Christmas, but why not drown myself into this festive mood?

Selangor provides a lot of public holidays in December, this year even better with holidays fall on Sundays leading to replacement holidays on Mondays.

Woohoo, long weekends!

Also, it's a great reason for gatherings too.

I had an early Christmas gathering with my ID gang last Sunday at sw's house.

We had a great time, really. :)

Drama: 我可能不会爱你 In Time With You

I'm watching this drama recently for 2 reasons:

1)I like Ariel Lin and 2)the director, 霍友宁.

Both of them work together previously on another hit drama and a sequel, 恶作剧之吻&恶作剧2吻.

They are both great in their respective positions.

I'm hooked with the drama now, which I have to wait to watch one episode a week.

I like how they present the story from a 30-year-old lady's point of view (hmm, maybe because I'm almost the age too).

Love the setting of the drama, and also the room of Ariel.

That's the remaining structure of the floor slab and just adding a piece of glass on top.

It's part of her room which is on the top floor/attic of the house.

Oh please leave behind the thought of privacy, k? :)

How cool!

And a short drama in it is awesome too!

The short drama 收信快乐 is also featuring 万芳, which is quite a surprise to me with her appearance.

She's a great singer, by the way.

Cup Noodles Museum, Yokohama

One of the reasons that makes Yokohama an interesting place to visit is the Cup Noodles Museum, which is newly opened since September this year.

I have to say I'm lucky to have the chance to visit it when I was there. :)

The brilliant concept of this museum was developed by Kashiwa Sato, who also did the branding for UNIQLO.

The cute !!! sign is really eye-catching, and I love the lofty entrance too.

Here's the instant noodles history cube, displaying over 3,000 product packages since half a century ago.

Not only loved by kids, adults are fascinated by the products too.

We were acting silly with the sculpture of cup noodles.

The doodles are about the making of cup noodles and also the creator, Momofuku Ando's story.

Here are some of interactive sections, which looks fun for the kids to play with.

The recreation of work shed where the world's first instant ramen was invented.

Here's a statue of the founder, Mr Momofuku Ando.

That's very long queue at the My Cupnoodles Factory. You can purchase a cup for 300yen from a vending machine, design your own cup, choose your favourite soup and topping, then they will seal it for you. Take your cup to a station to pack it in air package and bring home as a souviner!

We didn't join in although we would love to have a try, but time didn't allow that.

Here's Chicken Ramen Factory, where you can try to make ramen by hand!

How cool is that~

This cup noodles park really amazed me.

It's for the kids to play, and still not forgetting about the manufacturing process of cup noodles.

See the slide? This part was made of carton boxes of cup noodles, representing the cup noodles are ready to be sent out.

The mascot of the museum is super kawaii!

Even LC couldn't resist herself to have fun with the yellow chick! haha~

Gyre, a high end shopping mall in Omote-sando, just situated nicely opposite Omote-sando Hills.

I like the logo and signage very much. Cool ones!

I was there to visit Leslie Kee x Miyuki Matsuda's photo exhibition.

Also visited MoMA Design Store and D&Department.

These 2 outlets enough to make me excited!

'Shop & Think' seems to be the theme of the mall.

There's a park-like area at lower ground floor.

You can buy food from the cafes at the same floor, have your favourite spot and enjoy your food. :)

Yokohama is one of my favourite place during my last trip to Tokyo.

I did plan to visit for the second time after the outing with LW and LC, but time just didn't allow me to do that.

If I go to Japan again, I'll sure revisit Yokohama. :)

That's what I like about flea market, it's like digging treasure from people's unwanted stuffs.

When I first reached Tokyo, the first thing I wanted to do was to visit a flea market.

It's one of the way to know more about the lifestyle and culture of the people.

On my way to Meiji Koen 明治公园 from Aoyama station.

Keep walking.

When I was contemplating which way to go further, I saw these pretty ladies walking to my direction.

So I asked them for the flea market, but none of them aware about it.

They were heading to a wedding reception, but they were kind enough to ask me to walk along with them to the police hut nearby.

So sweet~

Finally I got the direction from a guard which he gave me a map to refer. :)

KL Design Week 2011 @Publika

KLDW 2011 -Reach For The Stars.

KLDW used to be held in Capsquare, this year they move to Publika, a rather new commercial space and also in art scene.

This time was rather quiet.

I think venue is one of the reason as it's not reachable by train.

Taxi is the only way to come here for those who don't own a vehicle.

One of the prototype furniture that I find it interesting and suits Publika's concept.

From all of the exhibitions and corners, I find the 'buah-buahan tempatan' the most interesting one.

The Japanese architect drew out the layout plans and details of every rooms during his stay.

Popular BookFest 2011 @KL Convention Centre

We were there from 3-7pm, but we didn't get much this year.

Some more including 2 books from Kinokuniya.

Fangyee got Elizabeth Noble's novel which is recommended as a good read by her best friend.

The backdated magazines that I buy almost every issues, Shopping Design and My Lohas.

Both from Taiwan.

The Tokyo-Kyoto book is bought at Kinokuniya, no discount though.

MING is a magazine from China, which we find it a nice reading material.

Chenyee got the Macaroons and Eating India from the book fair, both under RM20 which is a good bargain.

'好吃' is bought from Kinokuniya at 20% discount, which is now RM25.70. This Taiwan magazine is featuring bread! :)

DIY: Rose clutch

I'd been keeping these rose fabrics (from sample book) for awhile, loving it very much and wanted to do something with it, but had no idea how to start.

On a relaxing Sunday, a sudden thought "why not I make a clutch?"

So I brought it out from my drawer and started to cut and sew.

I must be seeing Hoyoyi's reversible baby booties that sparks me of making the clutch reversible too!

I bought her baby booties for my friend before too.

Aren't they lovely? :)

I visited Singapore last month to watch dance performance

"Mémoires d'Oubliettes/Sehnsucht: A Double Bill"

by Nederlands Dans Theater I.

It was aweeeeesome! It was my first time to watch this kind of world class performance.

Other than that, we just walked around the island.

We visited some adjoining shopping malls such as City Hall Suntec City and Millenia Walk.

Also visited Haji Lane for those unique boutiques.

We stayed in the quite new Pillow & Toast which we quite like that place if not talking about the 4-walls-without-window room.

It was another hazy day in the island.

We came to Chai Diam Ma (grocery shop in Hokkien dialect) on Queen St.

Like travellers, as we visit Penang every year for a few times and in fact I was born there, is still valid as we really walked around like travellers.

We visited cafes and arcade (glad that we were on time for Georgetown Festival 2011).

We stopped when we saw interesting old shops.

We were so happy when we found the place we wanted to visit.

George Town Festival 2011

Wow, Penang is having such a great event here!

It's to celebrate George Town being listed as UNESCO world heritage site on year 2008.

A lot of events and exhibition including dances, music events, photography and food will be held in conjunction with the festival.

Sounds exciting! Especially they could afford to invite Akram Khan to perform 'Vertical Road'.

我去年一月份从越南把它带回来后，就开始启用了。

用了一年多了，也洗过两次了，灰尘血迹脱线都有，但我还是很喜欢它。

我不会觉得很心痛，因至少这些日子我天天都看着它用着它。

另一位朋友本来也看中它了，但我不让着，因为让它仅仅躺在抽屉里更让人心疼吧！

以前的我也有像我朋友那样的习惯，和把最好吃留最后的道理一样，把最爱的东西都收藏起来或不舍得用。

记得有一次初中的时候的运动练习，我们都把背包堆放在一个角落然后到草场去，结果回去发现到我心爱的背包不见了！里头还有我不舍得用的钢笔和零钱包。而且都是还很新的。

还有陆陆续续一些事情让我惊觉：我不要再那样子了！

喜欢的东西常拿来用，就会常常看到它而开心，不是更好吗？

Archidex 2011 is here

This coming 30 June-3 July 2011, Archidex 2011 will be held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

This is the one exhibition that I'm looking forward to annually. There are more and more green materials coming up which is a good sign.

But I'm still looking for ways to design and persuade clients to have a greener and healthier interior.

Meanwhile, there are also forums and workshops in conjunction with this annual thing.

I'm exposed more to organic and natural stuffs since my sister works with Justlife.

This handmade soap is sold in the shop, the promotional pack was 3 for RM30.

It's nice, leaves me with soft and moisturized skin, and yet without any artificial fragrance.

It's always great to be back in hometown again.

This carnival organized by Justlife started since last Wednesday. It will end today (Sunday).

Apart from their own products, some other vendors selling organic products also join them.

Having coconut ice cream (RM2.50) which is very coconutly nice!

I mean even the coconut flesh was found inside the ice cream, and the flavour is authentic.

A lot of my friends were on vacations recently.

So that means I got a number of souvenirs to collect!

I used to tell my friends "don't burden yourself by searching souvenir for me la"

But when I got it, and moreover it's something I love, I'm still a happy gal. =)

Coffee bean chocolate from Taiwan, coin purse from Krabi and tile coaster ( Polka dots! And blue somemore!) from Bangkok.

There are also some food and chocolate from Taiwan and Langkawi Island which already digested in my tummy, hehe.

才刚刚加入新公司不久,有另一个选择出现了.

考虑了一天, 决定跳脱现状, 接受挑战.

总觉得我目前的事业就像三级跳一样:

第一步是跑了一段距离才跳, 第二步弹跳一下就到了第三步了.

虽然我也不懂我的决定会有什么结果, 但我觉得怎么都试过了才说.

我不想过后再后悔.

后天就是新的月份, 也是我新的开始.

但愿有好运, 不求一切顺利, 只希望每件事都有解决的方案.

New external harddisk + chirimen bag

I never owned an external hard disk before this.

So when I got this 320GB Samsung babe, it's relatively cheap compared to last time.

I was thinking to sew a bag for it, until I remembered I had a bag from a Chirimen workshop years ago, which we were given the material and taught to sew it by a Japanese lady.

It's made of Japanese fabric, and all sewn by hand.

When I got to know about earthquake in Japan, I was indeed shocked.

I have a few friends living in Japan now, and I was worry about them.

Luckily they still can online to let us know that they are still safe.

I was planning to visit them this Autumn. But the disaster didn't pull me back, I'm even firmer now that I must go to see this place and also see them by myself.

I hope everything will be fine soon. Very soon.

Guitar Project

Finally, one more to tick off from my list: to learn guitar!

I learned a little from friends when I was in secondary school, but no further learning after knowing only a few chord. ;P

The course will take 3 months to complete. As my teacher said we will be able to play songs and also perform after that WITH PRACTICE.

Never too old to learn something new as long as one has patience.

I hope everything goes well for me, then I'll be able to sing with guitar.

新年节庆热热闹闹的，就这样差不多要结束了。

本来在PJ看着泪汪汪的天空，幸好回到Kedah是艳阳高照的。

这样才是新年嘛~

见到了多年不见的中学同学，大部分纷纷从国外回来过年。

也有好多亲戚的小朋友可以玩。

虽然不如往年般热闹，但还是很喜欢新年时大大小小的聚会。

新的一年，要更加努力朝目标前进，尤其是拥有自己的property这件事。

不管你和我一样有目标，还是想继续堕落的，大家加油啦！

Pinang Peranakan Mansion

I was walking on Church St and found out that Pinang Peranakan Mansion is there!

We didn't enter when I was here with my family years ago. So since I was alone, I might as well visit.

Everything is so rich in colour and texture.

This is one of the many dining halls in this building.

Looking to back hall and void from back corridor on first floor.

This is one of the popular spots for wedding potrait.

I was in Penang for my friend's wedding dinner last weekend.

Since I was there, so I might as well have a walk before boarding flight back to PJ on Monday night.

I paid RM2.60 for the SP-Butterworth bus ride 4 years ago.

Now it's RM3.90 already.

Reaching Penang Island by ferry from Butterworth.

I used to dance at the first floor of this building when I was in USM.

But I don't what is it for.

JY requested a pouch for her handphone.

That's when I brought out all the fabric and leather samples to choose.

The fabrics, and the Union Jack pattern requested by JY.

It's made of ribbons bought from Singapore years ago.

The front pocket is meant for her to put cards. But I had miscalculated and it couldn't fit any card.

Too bad, but I promised to make her a new one.

New year 20!!

I started my new year in hectic and laid back at the same time, which I was least expected.

Minutes before everyone shouting 'happy new year' and watching fireworks, I was still working in the office.

I was just hanging at home whole day on 1st of January.

Does that symbolise my year 2011? =)

I love busy life with some moments of going away from it.

My year 2010 was great as I was busy in living a life.

Yes, i mean A L-I-F-E.

Working, dancing, travelling, cooking & eating, sewing, taking photos etc.

I've finally changed job after staying for 4 years at the previous company.

I'd performed dance, learned choreography and also choreographed my own solo dance.

I'd been to Ho Chi Minh City and Taipei last year.

I cook and eat at home whenever I can.

I bought a good sewing machine and I sew bags for myself, and also gifts for friends.

I started to play film photos with an abandoned Canon film camera. I bought a Ricoh semipro camera.

This year I'll be busy attending weddings.

I still wish to get a good DSLR.

I'm thinking of attending a class, maybe yoga or guitar.

I'm still learning to become a better designer.

I want to go for more vacations.

That's the way I like it.

And I'll continue whatever I'm doing.

DIY: christmas decor/key chain/bookmark

I make it so useful so that it won't be kept away after Christmas celebration. =)

The first Christmas tree in the making. I put in some sponge so it couldn't be a bookmark.

The santa's hat was requested by my housemate.

So the rest of them are qualified as bookmarks, other than being key chains (that's when the black ribbon is needed). Some of them were given to friends already.

I've been with Rivergrass since Pebbles 4, and Pebbles 7 on last saturday was awesome!

We had a private event at Ms Mew's house cum studio, only with our friends and relatives as audience.

A quick tour at Empire Hotel Subang

Empire Hotel is a relatively new hotel in Subang, adjoining a shopping mall named Empire Shopping Gallery.

We were there for the first time to have a look at the shopping mall and we saw the opening of the hotel. So we thought we might as well tour the public area of it.

The hotel portrays a modernise interior with a lot of reflective materials, but they also add in wood to make it cosier.

The entrance to the ballroom which has a funky design.

The door looks like chocolate bar to me.

A long corridor leading us to the main lobby.

Some decor with modern classic twist.

Walkabout in KL city (Islamic Art Museum & Lake Garden)

Since we're passing National Mosque, we thought we might as well do a visit.

But that hour was not open to non-Muslims (must be praying time then), so we went on to walk to Islamic Art Museum.

An adult is charged by RM12, be it Malaysian or non-Malaysian.
Actually I've been here once to do research for a project last year.

They have special exhibition every now and then, so I still see something different from my previous visit.

After that, we walked to Lake Garden which is in the same area as the museum.

It looked like going to rain anytime.

It was 5pm when we reached the garden.

We were walking to Islamic Art Museum after dropping from bus at the entrance of KTM.

This KTM building might be old, but it's so photogenic that I could just snap like nobody's business.

It's only a few days left to Deepavali celebration when we was strolling down Brickfields.

All buidings in Brickfields turned light purple.

It was just recently being officially launched the Little India Project by Indian PM and our PM.

But, er, light purple for all buildings?

Not to my liking, anyway.

Deepavali is meant to be colourful.

See? everything is in purple.

Chenyee bought a Punjabi suit here.

Then we had our lunch at a chinese restaurant.

From KL Sentral, we walked to Muzium Negara.

But an ongoing construction took part of the walkway, so we were like walking with cars for that moment.

After breakfast, we walked to St John's Cathedral via Jalan Munshi Abdullah.

I never knew there's a building like this inside kl. i thought i was in France~

"St John's Cathedral is a whitewashed cathedral with twin spires, located at the center of Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. It is a Roman Catholic church and is aligned to the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur. It was originally opened in 1883, making it one of KL's oldest buildings. I've been living in PJ, considered as a neighbour to KL, for about 4 years.

But I lost my way almost everytime I drove to the city.

That's why I still prefer to take public transport there.

Since both of us are on holiday, we took one day to tour KL like tourists.

We reached Pasar Seni (Central Market) to take LRT going to Dang Wangi.

Such a happening month!

First, it's my last month with the company of my four career years.

I took Chinese dance class by Jack Kek.

A few gatherings with ex-colleagues, ex-housemates, secondary schoolmates, university coursemates and makan gang.

Then, 2 weddings to attend within a week.

Also, a small revamp of my living space.

Other than these, some small events stuffed in my calendar that I attended.

I love being busy. =)

目前共收集了6本，其中2本是四月去台北时买到的。

我刚买到的是右下方那本。

Like the name suggested, this is a lane infamously known as the place where a Chinese tycoon kept his concubine during the past century.

Looking at the sorry state now, we felt that it could be restored and developed for better purposes.

When most of the units look miserable and unoccupied, there are still a few families carry on their lives in the lane.

I like this building very much!

终于用到在台北败回来的棉布了！

因为每一种都买的不多，不舍得用，所以一直搁着。

它是一个非常简单的肩包。

这次制作比平时快了些，但我还是弱在弄拉链的口袋，花了很多时间又缝又拆的。

不过无所谓，反正都是自己在用。=）

拉链是从housemate的旧包包拆下来用的，我自己加了一只长颈鹿。

又多一个包包可以用了，其中一个旧的将会拿来当shopping bag.

What you need are:

(my portion)

5 green apples

4 tablespoon of sugar

1/2 cup of lemon juice

Cut all the apples into dices

Heat the water (amount to be enough to cover the apples) with sugar

Put all the apples into the boiling water

Add in lemon juice

Keep stirring until all the apples turned soft and into thick sauce

Set aside the jam for cooling

Keep your jam in your favourite jars

Before that, prepare the jar by sterilizing with hot water

It's just that simple.

Try it and have fun!

This is my second visit to MAPkl, for exhibition of LUCT's graduating students and sharing by a few artists.

It was begun with Butoh dance by Nyoba Kan' dancers.

A huge DIY pillow.

Guests of the exhibition were asked to doodle on the board, hence the flying robot and my foot.

Speakers for "Journey Sharing" :(from left) Lee Swee Keong, a dancer; Nikolai, a chef; Wong Wai Lam from Peekfreak; Chin Yew, an artist; and Henry Lee, a creative advertising lecturer.

Next up was a conversation with Adrian Yap from KLUE.

Too bad that the performance by Lapar Lab in Black Box had to be missed, as the time was clashed with the "Journey Sharing" talk.

It's not supposed to happen, as the dance was scheduled to start on 4.15pm, but it wasn't on time. I was looking at a rehearsal and following by singing band. I was confused as no one was there to announce the delay. Only when I asked a staff, I was told that the dance will only start in another 1/2 hour, so I had to leave for the talk which will start first.

And even the talk, which is scheduled on 4.30pm, also started late.

hmm......

Nevermind.

cute little POCO Homemade, Bangsar

Me and my sis went to POCO for dinner after shopping at Bangsar on a raining Sunday.

This cute little cafe sits in a quiet neighbourhood on Jalan Kurau in Bangsar.

It is run by an artsy couple, Mer Mer & zzz.

Most of the decor and selling items are of their creations.

A lot of inspiring things to see~

They sell Japanese style food.

We had creamy green tea and coffee for drink, and Japanese curry rice to fill up our tummy.

We were keen to try their homemade cake, but unfortunately there's none left for us.

Hope to see they can be better and better as not many cute and independent cafe like theirs here.
